Building Our First Home

First Home

Never in a million years did I think we would have decided to build our first home, but I am beyond happy that we made this decision. Our journey began back in 2019, which feels like forever ago. We started looking to buy our first home together after years and years of saving. We reached out to our friend who is a real estate agent and began hunting for our dream home. We fell in love with the first house we saw and were surprised how easy it was to find exactly what we wanted. We didn’t put in an offer because it was literally the first house we saw and we figured there were plenty of options like it out there but boy were we wrong and instantly regretted it! After looking at a countless number of houses (32 to be exacted) we made a joke about how we should just build a house because we couldn’t find what we were looking for and that sparked the idea to look into new builds.

After looking at a few new builds and reviewing timelines we decided it was out of the question since we didn’t want to wait that long, and we wanted a house now. Then my father in-law came across this beautiful, quiet new build north of the city and we were SOLD. It was everything we wanted and more. We were so exited we would get to choose all of our finishes and it would be ready by December 2020… then along came Covid! Inevitably construction got delayed and our closing date got bumped to July 2021. Now we are in the final countdown with just 3 months to go and have become so emotional invested in our first home. We visit the site to check in on the progress weekly and are blown away with how quickly it’s all coming together. I’ve started to buy things for the kitchen but will wait on buying furniture until we actually move in. Here’s what I’ve bought or been gifted so far, if you have any recommendations please leave them in the comments below. I’d love to hear any advice you have to give.
