Sick Day Survival Guide How to survive being sick

by Nicole Erin

For the past two weeks I’ve been stuck at home really sick with what feels like tonsillitis combined with the worst flue I’ve ever had. Now that I’m starting to feel like myself again I thought I would share with you some tips and tricks I use to help myself feel better when I’m stuck at home on a sick day. So here is my Sick Day Survival Guide!

Staying hydrated! I always keep my Kate Spade cup close by when I’m sick as a cute reminder to drink up. Drinking lots of water or juice is important to make up for any fluids you might have lost if you have a fever or were vomiting. I try and drink 2 liters  throughout the day when I’m home sick.

Eating Right! What you put inside your body is so important, especially when you’re sick. I always try to eat clean when I’m sick but if I have no appetite I try and sick with the traditional soup & crackers. If my body is having trouble keeping food down then I stick with a “BRAT” diet (Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast) for a day or two then work my way back to my regular eating habits.

Lastly you need to rest & relax! My favorite things to do when I’m sick and my body is aching is to run a hot bath and throw in my favorite Lush Bath Bomb! I’m seriously obsessed with them and it’s a great way to pass the time when your stuck at home all day sick. I like to follow my bath up with some Netflixs, a face mask and an afternoon nap. Getting lots of rest if very important for your body to recover so grab a cozy blanket and try and make the best of a bad situation!

INSTA SICK

Liquids & Food:

Drink Plenty of H2O – Add sliced lemons for a small boost to your immune system
Oil of Oregano – Can help fight off infections and soothe a sore throat
Drink Juice – It will help you to stay hydrated, has vitamin C and cranberry juice is especially helpful for a UTI
Chicken Noodle Soup – Always a necessity when sick
Crackers – A good base for your stomach if you need to take antibiotics
Toast – I like adding a small amount of peanut butter for protein
Jello – Again it’s easy for your stomach to digest and well it jiggles!
Fruits – Bananas, Grapes, Strawberries are great to snack on and perfect if you don’t have a huge appetite
Peek Freans: Fruit Creme – This is more a personal choice but I always like something a little sweet after eating bland foods for so many days

Comfort & Entertainment:

Comfortable Blanket – To snuggle and to bring extra comfort
Housecoat – Perfect extra layer & great for after a long bath
Bath Bomb – A bath can help with any aches and pains, I’ve used 3 of them since being sick and just bought two more
Moisturizer – This is for after the bath to keep your skin looking healthy
Facemasks – Such a great way to past the time & your skin will thank you once your feeling back to yourself.
Netflix – Have you seen FULLER HOUSE?… well I have! I’ve also been enjoying Modern Family, Law & Order: SVU and of course Friends!
Youtube + Blogs/Vlogs – If you can’t leave the house, why not catch up on your favorite blogs and watch all those youtube videos you’ve been missing out on {My fav blogs: Barefoot Blonde, Mckenna BleuCOF, In The Frow + My fav Vloggers: Karissa Pukas, Nikki Blackketter, SACCONEJOLLYs, Aspyn+Parker}
